More than 20 years ago I joined my first mentorship group and it was something that impacted my life in a radical way.
Since then, I have been committed to growing spiritually and personally by being mentored and mentoring others. If someone were to ask me what my biggest life lesson is I would say it is you become like those you surround yourself with.
The past year, I have been prayerfully thinking about starting a mentorship group and have decided to start one this Fall. If you live in the Nashville, TN area and are a leader who is looking to impact yourself, your family and the world for God then this group might be for you.
In creating my mentorship program I gleaned wisdom from from Michael Hyatt (author of Your Best Year Ever) and Regi Campbell (author of Mentor Like Jesus). This will be a small group of only 8 men (from mid-twenties to mid-thirties) who live in the Nashville area and you can apply below.
Why only men in the greater Nashville area? First, I believe I am most equipped to help young men because I have confronted and overcome many of the same obstacles and I also think it is more powerful to meet in person.
When I was in my early twenties, I was wasting my life having no direction and purpose. I was convicted I had one life to live and started to praying to God asking him for help and guidance. One thing I remember asking from God was for him to send me “a flood of godly Christian men into my life”, and He did just that! Since then I have realized that being mentored and mentoring others is essential for ultimate life growth.
To help people run their best race by uncovering their true identity and purpose in learning how to love our families, excel in our careers and impact our communities. We will focus on the following areas of growth: leadership, marriage, priorities, strategic life planning, making wise decisions, work/life balance and godly character. We will also devote a significant amount of focus on what it means to be a child of God and how to develop a deep, real relationship with Jesus Christ.
I specifically recruit men who meet the following criteria:
Residents of greater Nashville, TN area, as I will be hosting the meetings in my home.
Devoted followers of Jesus Christ. You may be struggling, but want to improve.
Men who are hungry for growth, coachable and willing to make changes
Married men who are in their mid 20s to late 30s.
Humble men willing to take feedback without getting defensive and willing to look at themselves in the mirror and be honest about where they need to improve their lives
Willingness to replicate the mentor process in the future and pay if forward.
2 Weekend Retreats
Monthly Book Assignments and a 1-page written book summary
Memorize 24 scriptures (about two per month).
The meetings and being on time aren’t optional. The group will find a schedule and stick to it. For everyone to get the most out of the group it’s important that every single person be 100% committed to completing every assignment on time and being at every meeting ready to engage and grow. There is a good chance you will have to make some difficult decisions in order to keep your commitment to the group. The program starts mid October.
The cost of the program is $500, all of which will be given to ministries that support saving women from sex trafficking and helping feed orphans around the world.
Also, both you and your wife will be asked to sign a covenant that says she supports you attending these sessions and that you are committed to completing all required material on time. If you are lukewarm about your growth, don’t pursue it because you would be taking the spot of someone who really wants and needs this.
If you live in Nashville and decide that you are interested, click on this link to apply. The application takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
The deadline for the application is September 21st at 5:00 p.m. CST. Once I receive all applications I will prayerfully review them. I will then select eight men to be part of the group. I will notify you by email by October 15th.
